Hi-Flyers Sweep Titles
The
Hi-Flyer wrestling club topped previous records on the way to winning
Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Team State competitions. The Hi-Flyers broke the state record for
number of finalists in the Freestyle State competition with 17, which included
an amazing ten state champions. The
Hi-Flyers also crushed the state record for most team points in the Freestyle
and Greco-Roman State competitions.
Congratulations to all who participated and helped accomplish this
year long goal.
Jeremy Pederson Doubles
Up at Kids Nationals
Jeremy Pederson won the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Kids Nationals in Waterloo, IA. Jeremy became the first two-time Kids National Champion in Hi-Flyer history and only the second ever to win a title at this prestigious tournament. Jeremy has unlimited potential and should make an impact on the high school scene this year.
Nathan Matousek and Ken Saufl were also All-Americans in each style at the Kids Nationals. Nathan and Ken are both dedicated wrestlers who also won the Triple Crown (Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle state championships).
Wesley Reardan placed fifth in the Freestyle competition at the Kids Nationals. Wesley was the most improved wrestler in the Hi-Flyer club this past season.
Donny Depatto and Andy Strand continue their success in becoming Cadet All-Americans. Andy and Donny are two of the most decorated wrestlers in Hi-Flyer history. Both have won numerous state and Northern Plains titles. Donny is a Cadet again next year and should have a chance to become the first Hi-Flyer to win a Cadet National title.
Kelly Pederson became a two-time Junior National All-American by finishing 8th in the tough 123 lb. weight class. Kelly placed 4th last year in the 98 lb. weight class. Kelly also won the state high school tournament last year and will look for his second title in the upcoming season.

The tournament is still in the planning stages but we plan to have four all-star teams from Iowa face off against four all-star teams from Minnesota, one team consisting of mostly Hi-Flyers. This should be a fun and exciting tournament for all that participate. More information will be available at our first practice in December.
