Gut wrench put back to two points. FILA apparently had a change of
heart
(maybe a lot of complaints) and has decided to stay with 2 points
for a gut
wrench (will not go to 1 point).

New: FILA (International Wrestling Rules) has changed the 'gut wrench'
from 2
points to 1 point.
FILA keeps a count of what moves are being used to score points at
World
Tournaments and sometimes they will change rules if they think too
many
points are being scored by one move (guess they like variety). The
idea is
that the wrestlers will now use other moves.
At Northern Plains and National Kids (Freestyle and Greco) wrestlers
will
have to weigh-in everyday. If you do Greco you still will have
to weigh-in
for Freestyle. This rule will not apply at Kids National Folkstyle
this year.

NEW: MN USA Wrestling is going to have folkstyle dual team competition
with
individual competition at region qualifiers and state tournament. Sounds
great, details TBA.
Joel Sharratt is now an assistant coach at the Naval Academy and no
longer
with USA MN Wrestling.
Apple Valley will not have a folkstyle tournament in December for junior
high
school kids, as they have in the past.
White Bear Lake will not have a freestyle or greco tournament this year.
Screaming Eagles (Champlin Park) will not have a freestyle tournament
this
year.
Mat Bandits (Coon Rapids) will have their freestyle tournament but not
on
Easter weekend, as they have for many years in the past.
