Nate Baker
HiFlyers This will be Nates third
year coaching the HiFlyers. In his
sophomore year at the University of Minnesota, Nate has just broken into the
starting lineup and placed 5th in his first Big-Ten
Championship. He represented the
Gophers last year at his first NCAA tournament taking his first All American
Honors.
Nate Baker put
together a spectacular season as a true freshman in 2000-01, compiling a 21-3
record with four titles won in open tournaments on the year. A three-time prep
state champ, Baker now looks to translate his high school and freshman year
success into a starting lineup role at 165 pounds for the Golden Gophers.
Replacing two-time All-American will not be a simple task, but Baker is one of
several Minnesota grapplers that hope to grab the starting job.
2000-01: Redshirted the 2000-01 season posted a
21-3 overall record wrestling unattached at 157 and 165 pounds notched nine
pins, four major decisions and two technical falls on the year captured
titles at the Kaufman-Brand 20-and-under Open, Northern Open (with teammate
Luke Becker), Flanagan Open and Worthington Open took second place at the
season-opening Bison Open, losing to Becker 10-5 in the title match.
High School: Three-time Minnesota state champion
compiled an overall record of 204-12 during his career maintained a perfect
43-0 record during his senior year talled 127 pins during his career,
including 27 in his senior season was ranked No. 1 in the nation at 152
pounds five-time all-conference and all-area selection, and three-time
all-state pick 2000 Junior National Freestyle Champion named to the Dave
Schultz National Hall of Fame also lettered in football (2) and track (3).
