September 2003
2003 Season
Review The 2003 season was another solid one for the
Hi-Flyers. As a club, we were once
again Freestyle and Greco Grand Champions.
In Freestyle, we qualified 53 wrestlers for state. 33 of our wrestlers were
placewinners, including six champions
and fourteen finalists. In Greco, we
had 22 placewinners, seven of whom were champions. The Hi-Flyers crowned four double champions: Danny Zilverberg, David Thorn, Joe
Grygelco and Mike Thorn. At the Northern Plains, the Hi-Flyers had seventeen
placewinners, including champions Wesley Reardan, Joe Grygelco and Mike
Thorn. Joe Grygelco was a double
champion, winning both Greco and Freestyle.
Congratulations to all of our wrestlers. All that hard work really paid off. Metro Monday The Metro Monday program
will be changing to two sites this year, one at Minnetonka High
School and the other St. Michael/Albertville High School. Hopefully this will allow more kids the
opportunity to participate without having to travel as far. Please see the enclosed flyer on the
Metro Monday program. |
Spring Hi-Flyer Preview The spring Hi-Flyer
program will have a new location as well.
Beginning in March, practices will be held
at Wayzata High School and St. Michael/Albertville High School. All age groups will practice at both
schools, so families can choose their site of convenience. In mid-April, we will
consolidate to Wayzata only as more space frees up in their gyms. Folkstyle State and National Tournaments The MN/USA Folkstyle Kids/Cadet State Tournament will be held in late
March this year. Following this
tournament a Folkstyle National Tournament will be held on April 2-3 in Cedar
Falls, IA. Therefore, the Hi-Flyers
will be practicing and wrestling folkstyle through the end of March with the
expectation that our top kids will test their skills against the nation’s
best in Cedar Falls at the USA Nationals.
Freestyle/Greco
Freestyle practice will
begin in April and several open tournaments will be attended prior to the
Greco and Freestyle state tournaments in May and the Northern Plains in June.
