Officiating
in Freestyle and Greco Roman
Friends of wrestling,
Each year is seems that our base of volunteers is
shrinking. People want to be paid for
just about everything. The satisfaction
that comes from volunteering to help programs and kids tournaments to succeed
ultimately helps kids find the success that keeps them off the streets and
involved in sports of all kinds. I have,
along with countless others in
There is a window of opportunity that has opened up for
anyone wanting to get into officiating Freestyle and Greco wrestling. FILA has made a
number of exciting changes in the rules of the sport for the simple reason of
making it more appealing for non-wrestling spectators to watch. These new
rules, I think make it easier to be a mat official. So if you are interested come and join the
rest of us and learn right along with us as we learn to apply the new
rules. Don't worry wrestling is still
wrestling it doesn't change the sport it changes how the sport is presented to
the public. It's more exciting to watch, especially in Greco. There are more
opportunities to score, especially if you have two well coached, evenly matched
wrestlers.
Volunteering to help with officiating, pairing, and the
general administration of running kids tournaments is very rewarding. You always get to watch your kid wrestle, and
you have the best seat in the house. Contact your club president, leader, or coach ask them how
you can get involve. Let's get you
matched up with someone who can help get you started. If you want to jump right in feel free to
contact, me at 507-238-1669 or by email (the best way) tkuisle@fairmont.k12.mn.us
Thanks
Thomas Kuisle, Matt officials Director MN/
